Are you showing what you've actually got?

Most people your age have more to offer than they realise. Not because they haven't done anything. Because nobody ever showed them how to see it.

Good to know

What most people overlook.

Does experience outside paid work count?
Yes. Team sport, volunteering, looking after siblings, running a school event or a side project all demonstrate skills an employer is paying for: commitment, reliability, working with people you didn't choose, and handling things when they go wrong.
Two people did the same job. Do they have the same skills?
No. Two people can work the same two years at the same shop and come out with completely different strengths, depending on what they took on and what they noticed. What matters is being able to describe your version of it.
Why doesn't saying "I'm a good communicator" work?
Because anyone can say it. Employers believe a skill when it comes attached to a moment: what happened, what you did, and what changed because of it. A claim without an example reads as filler.
Do I need more experience before I apply?
Usually not. More often the issue isn't a lack of experience, it's not yet understanding the experience you already have and how it connects to where you want to go.
