Founding group, forming now
Real answers from people who do the job.
We're building a network of professionals across Australia who are happy to answer real questions from 16 to 25 year olds starting out. It's new, it's small on purpose, and you can be one of the first in, on either side.
"What does a paramedic actually do on a night shift? Is it all emergencies?"
"Honestly? A lot of it is calm. Transfers, checking on older patients, paperwork. Then one call changes the whole night..."
An example of how it could look
How it will work
One real question. One honest answer.
You ask
One real question about a job or an industry. The kind you can't get a straight answer to online.
It goes to the right person
Deanna passes it to a professional who actually does that work. Every mentor is personally reviewed first.
An honest reply, or a short call
What the job is really like, how they got there, and what they'd do if they were starting now.
For 16 to 25 year olds
What would you ask someone in the job?
Tell us your question now. When the founding group is ready, you'll be first in line for an answer from someone who does that work.
This is about honest answers, not job offers. Nobody here will promise you a job, and you should be wary of anyone who does.
Founding mentors
Remember who answered your questions?
Be that person for someone starting out, wherever you are in Australia. You choose how much you give: one email, one call, or more. Founding mentors help shape how this works.
Tell us about you
Two minutes. Your work, and how much time you'd like to give.
A quick chat with Deanna
Every mentor is personally reviewed before anyone is matched with them.
Answer when it suits you
Questions in your field come to you. You reply when you have time.
Questions
What we know so far.
An employer interested in meeting young people down the track? Get in touch.
When does this start?
When the founding group of mentors is ready. Everyone who joins now, on either side, hears first.
Is it safe for under 18s?
Safety comes first. Every mentor is personally reviewed, anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian's email to join, and mentors working with young people will need a Working With Children Check.
Will a mentor get me a job?
No. Mentors share what the work is really like and how they got there. That's worth a lot, but it isn't a job offer, and nobody here will pretend it is.
Do mentors get paid?
Founding mentors help shape how Connections works, including whether some mentoring becomes paid later on. We'll talk it through with every mentor before anything starts.
Will my question be shared?
Only if you tick the box saying it's OK, and never with your name. Shared answers help others with the same question.
